Tazewell County Health Department – Set to Open New Building on Broadway Street in Pekin in Late 2024

Tazewell County Health Department (TCHD) is excited to announce the impending opening of a new facility to better serve the Tazewell County community. In late 2024, TCHD will move its Clinic and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services to the building at 1800 Broadway Street in Pekin. Those services will also remain on a scheduled basis at TCHD’s current location at 21306 IL-9 in Tremont. This move will allow TCHD to bring its services closer to the County’s population center and to a more centralized location.
“The population center of Tazewell County is along the IL-29 corridor,” TCHD Administrator Amy Fox said. “This move will get us closer to that population. We will not lose services at the Tremont location, but we will be gaining access to a greater population.”
The new building provides TCHD clients with multiple locations at which they can receive services while also giving TCHD the flexibility to potentially add more services.
“The relocation of WIC services will provide easier access for our current and future families that we serve,” TCHD Birth to Five Division Director Beth Beachy said. “We are also excited to immerse ourselves into the community with plans for future services, including plans for expanding breastfeeding services, offering weight checks and promoting social and physical activity through stroller rolls.”
TCHD also anticipates opening a Dental Clinic at the new location on Broadway Street in the near future.
“We are excited to bring our clinic and future dental services to Pekin,” Angie Phillips, RN, TCHD Director of Clinical Services, said. “We look forward to providing services in a larger facility chosen for convenience and accessibility for our communities.”
The addition of the Dental Clinic at 1800 Broadway will help fill a gap in care in Tazewell County. TCHD’s previous Dental Clinic in North Pekin was shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are happy to bring dental services back to Tazewell County,” TCHD Administrator Amy Fox said. “The 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment revealed that 19% of Tri-County residents do not have access to dental care. We thank the County Board for recognizing these needs and assisting the Health Department with meeting our community’s needs.”
The building at 1800 Broadway was previously utilized by TCHD to offer COVID-19 testing and vaccinations during the pandemic. It was purchased by the Tazewell County Board from Carle Health in June of 2023. Renovations to the building are ongoing with an opening date to be determined in the near future.
