The Health Benefits of Line Dancing

Miller Center Monthly Dance Parties
BODY: The Physical Benefits of dance can’t be understated. It’s an accessible art form and physical activity that’s available to all ages whether you’re a newbie or a pro. Dancing can improve heart health, muscular strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, bone density, increased endurance, and stamina are all physical benefits that can help keep you active longer.
MIND: Exercise (like Line Dancing) has been connected to a decreased risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s as well as a slower cognitive decline in people who have already been diagnosed. It also preserves the integrity of the white matter in the brain. Other research has found that when adults learn new skills, the amount of white matter in their brains increases. We now know how important white matter is to our overall brain health and cognitive ability, as well as how declines in white matter are correlated with impairments in brain functioning.
SPIRIT: Beyond that, dancing has been proven to boost endorphins, decrease cortisol, reduce stress and anxiety, boost happiness and lift spirits, and is also beneficial to weight management.
Join the Fun & Learn to Line Dance
Line Dance Lessons are every Thursday at the Miller Center in Pekin. Line dancing can keep you socially active.
Meeting new people and having fun is the best medicine. Dancers build a bond and enjoy sharing their personal interest along with their love of dancing. You may even get pulled into a game a lot of dancers play called “what’s that dance.” When you start learning so many different dances it becomes a challenge to remember them all so it is a group effort sometimes to figure out the dance based on the steps or the music.
Ultimately, all these benefits affect a dancer’s self-confidence and wellbeing which extends far beyond the classroom. We encourage you to join the fun and meet us on the dance floor.
