Since its beginning in 2007 with just 21 students, Classical Dance Academy has grown into a local hub for dance. Now, with nearly 150 students, the studio has moved into a brand-new space in the Süd Building in downtown Pekin.

Classical Dance Academy, a women-owned and women-taught business, has been empowering its dancers since its opening. While the studio welcomes dancers of all genders and ages, a significant portion of its community comprises young girls. Studio owner Liz Waldschmidt talks about the collaborative aspect of dance, describing it as a “constant group project.” At Classical Dance Academy, dancers are encouraged to lead by example in class and rehearsals while uplifting their peers. They work together to perfect skills and routines, cultivating an environment of growth. This emphasis on teamwork strengthens the dancers’ technical abilities and nurtures leadership skills, teaching them to collaborate effectively and inspire those around them.
