Pekin Community High School is hosting Celebrate PCHS (Pekin Community High School) on April 9th from 5 – 7pm. Celebrate PCHS is an opportunity for students to showcase their work to the community.

Science teacher, Pricilla Deleare, takes charge of the annual event. In her own words “Celebrate is a showcase of classes, club/activities and sports that we have offered here at PCHS. It is an opportunity to celebrate the many things that PCHS has to offer our students.”

This night is not only about showcasing the work of students but also awarding those who go above and beyond in the school. “The night also includes an award ceremony. These awards are selected by each department of the school to honor students for various attributes:  leadership, citizenship, effort, and academics” Deleare explains.

This event is free and will be open to the public. PCHS encourages the community to stop by and show support for all of the hard-working students.

Deleare goes on to discuss what the role of the community is during the evening, “It is a community event that is similar to an open house format. People can come and go as they please, and participate in the various stations of student-developed work.”

There will be a variety of classes and projects showcased throughout the evening. The creative writing courses will showcase their narratives and poetry that they have created this semester. Art students will display projects that they have worked on. Journalism editors will feature stories that have been written for the Dragon’s Journal. This experience will also include a mixture of clubs and activities presenting their passion. Each department showcases its classes at this event as well.

PCHS students are excited and proud to show what they have been working on this year. Celebrate PCHS is a wonderful opportunity for the community to get involved and show support for the future generation of Pekin.
